attended Trinity College, University of Dublin, Ireland during 1963-64 as a recipient of a Rotary Foundation Fellowship. He was nominated for the fellowship by the Rotary Club of Jackson and then selected by the District 6820 selection committee. Ambassadorial Scholarships are available for individuals from Mississippi to study abroad at the college level. The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. The program sponsors several types of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students as well as for qualified professionals pursuing vocational studies. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share with Rotarians and others the experiences that led to greater understanding of their host countries.
Rotarians read and tutor children in Jackson schools who are below grade level in reading. Thirty minutes a week is all it takes to make a difference in a child's life. Instead of providing loans that have to be repaid, the Rotary Club of Jackson wants the scholarship recipients to give time back to the community in service--by tutoring younger students and provide leadership by helping others.

Group Study Exchange is a cultural and vocational exchange program in which Rotary Districts, in different countries, are paired to send and receive professional study groups of 4 to 6 non-Rotarians. Team members are business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40. Each team is led by a Rotarian Team leader. The visits are for 4 to 6 weeks with the teams residing, primarily in the homes of Rotarians. The program goal is to develop professional and leadership skills among these young adults so they can better address the needs of their communities in the global workplace. Over the program’s 41-year history, 32,000 men and women have participated in the exchange program.
