January 15, 2002

THERE WILL BE NO MEETING NEXT WEEK ON JANUARY 21. WE WILL OBSERVE THE BIRTHDAYS OF MARTIN LUTHER KING AND ROBERT E. LEE.

NEXT MEETING, JANUARY 28… Our own Dolphus Weary will talk to us about the work being done by Mission Mississippi.

LAST WEEK, JANUARY 14… After a stirring introduction by Shelton Hand (Bam!), Wes Holsapple shared some motivational thoughts with us, and urged us to "Take It To A Higher Level." Wes related some incidents from a mission trip he and Pauline took to Burma last year, and urged us all to seize the opportunities we have. To make life better, Wes said, we should (1) know our purpose, (2) set goals, and (3) develop a good plan of action. Thanks to Wes for a timely program.

THE ROTARY GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE… will take a group of young professionals to Brazil in May. If you know of a person who would be a good candidate for this honor (and who is not related to a Rotarian), please contact David Trigiani. Nominations are still open.

THE SWEETHEART BANQUET IS GETTING CLOSER… and we have two needs. First, Jennifer Hall urges you to step up and buy your tickets for the Rotary Mentor Scholarship program. (You can mail your contribution to the Rotary office. The address is right at the top of this Rotagram.) Less than half of our members have so far bought tickets. You don't want to make Jennifer phone you. Second, Bobbie Campbell needs more door prizes. If your company would like to participate, either with cash or with a gift certificate, please give Bobbie a call. The date? February 7, at the Country Club of Jackson.

YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS… has approved the following new member proposals. If no objection is received within 10 days, they will be introduced as new members:

  • Charles Barbour, Senior Project Manager, MS Development Authority. Charles was proposed by Julian Watson and Ben Allen.
  • Charles Doty, President & CEO, Lextron Corporation. Charles was proposed by Dick Acker.
  • Paul Tauchar, Director of International Sales, Trilogy Communi-cations, Inc. Paul was proposed by Billy Carter.
ON OUR WEB PAGE… at rotaryclubofjackson.org, all our members are listed, even those who've joined since July 1 and are not in "the book." If your PHOTO isn't there, it's because we don't have one of you. Please call Gib Ford and make an appointment to have your photo made (Rotary will pay for it). We'd really like to have everybody pictured.
