NEXT MEETING, FEBRUARY 11 Don Strange, Director of the Bureau of Narcotics, will speak to us about drug use in Mississippi. LAST WEEK, FEBRUARY 4
Mayor Harvey Johnson gave us an update on city government. The Mayor
told us about a number of new projects that are either underway or will
be shortly - like the Gateways And Cornerstones Initiative, the High Street
project, Union Station restoration, Mills Street Viaducts improvement,
the Telecommunications Training Center, and work being done in the Farish
Street Historic District and the Entertainment District. Mayor Johnson
also reported on crime (statistics show it's down), new businesses in
the city (which are up, even since 9/11), and emphasized once again our
need for a Convention Center. Thanks to Howard Catchings and Leroy
Walker for arranging this program, and to Leroy for introducing it. WHAT ABOUT DUES? They're due, that's what. And very nearly OVERdue. But, since the 10th of this month comes on a Sunday, we're extending the deadline until next Monday, the 11th. After that, you'll have to pay our hard-hearted Treasurer a ten-buck penalty. Several of you are very nearly eligible for that WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS
number 22 and 23 of this Rotary year: WE REGRET TO ANNOUNCE the resignation of several members, for a variety of reasons. They have either moved away, or cannot attend for one reason or another. We'll miss Ken Griffin, Dan Hobbs, Jeannie Smith, Tom Potter, and Bill Youngblood. MARK YOUR CALENDAR
there will be no regular meeting on February 18, as we celebrate Presidents'
Day. (I checked the calendar. That's REALLY the right day. - Editor)
That's not NEXT Monday, mind you, but the Monday AFTER next. |
