February 24, 2004 NEXT MEETING, MARCH 1… our speaker will be Dr. Henry Johnson, Superintendent of the State Department of Education. LAST MEETING, FEBRUARY 23… Herbert Brown, Past President of Rotary International, was our special guest, along with 15 Past District Governors of our District. Herb, who is also Past Chairman of the Rotary Foundation, told us that, every year, the Foundation sponsors between 1200 and 1400 Ambassadorial Scholars, who do post-graduate work in a country other than their own. There have been a total of more than 36,000 Rotary Scholars over the years, a program that towers over any other like it in the world. Herb also spoke of the Group Study Exchange program, and in particular about Polio Eradication. Thanks to District Governor Kay Steed for introducing Herb to us. OUR MENTOR SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM… raffle tickets are going very well, but we’re nowhere 100% yet, and that’s our goal. This is one of the greatest programs any Rotary club anywhere has ever had, and we need to support it in a big way. Remember, each Rotarian is expected to purchase two $100 tickets. If you haven’t got yours yet, contact Chair Jennifer Hall at 939-8820, or call the Rotary office at 352-8500. THE ROTARY SPOTLIGHT… turned February 23 on Will Mayo of Entergy. Wayne Patterson did the honors. Congratulations, Will. PRESIDENT’S CORNER… Charlie Walley and his committee are putting together a truly special evening for us. After viewing the treasures of Dresden, we will gather for a social time followed by dinner catered by Schimmel's in our private dining room. Following dinner the winners of the Mentor Scholarship raffle will be drawn. Put Tuesday, March 23, on your calendar for a night to impress your sweetheart. Make your reservations today! We can only accommodate the first 200, and we are over half way there now. - Haden YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS… has approved the following new member
proposal. If no objections are received within seven days, he will
be introduced to the club as a new member: UPCOMING PROGRAMS… here’s what Program Chairman Bill Allison has lined up for us in March:
