NEXT MEETING, MARCH 3…
Phil Bryant, State Auditor, will be our speaker.

LAST MEETING, FEBRUARY 24...
we heard from one of Mississippi’s civil rights legends, James Meredith, who was the first black student at Ole Miss more than 40 years ago. James said that “to be invited to speak to the Rotary Club of Jackson, Mississippi, is indeed the biggest event of my entire life.” He touched on a number of subjects, and said that, even though we have a ways to go, he’s convinced that Mississippi is “light years” ahead of the rest of the nation in race relations. Thanks to Roger Muns for arranging and introducing this program.

CONGRATULATIONS TO… Jimmy Chandler and Johnny Louis, who were recognized at the February 24 meeting as brand new Paul Harris Fellows.

YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS… has approved the following new member proposals. If no objections are received within seven days, they will be introduced to the club as new members:

  • Bill Fowler, Director of Marketing, Better Business Bureau of Miss-issippi. Bill was proposed by Bill Dawson.
  • Chris Fudge, President, ASAP Printing. Chris was proposed by Ron Applewhite.
  • John Lee, President/CEO, Mississippi Products, Inc. John was pro-posed by Gloria Johnson.
  • Marco McMillan, Executive Asst. to the VP, Jackson State University. Marco was proposed by Howard Catchings.
  • Phil Reed, President/CEO, Voice of Calvary Fellowship. Phil was proposed by Neddie Winters.
  • Mike Walker, Manager-External Affairs, BellSouth Telecommuni-cations. Mike was proposed by John McCullouch.
  • Primus Wheeler, Executive Director, Jackson Medical Mall. Primus was proposed by Neddie Winters.

DUES ARE DUE… and need to be paid. We haven’t said a lot about this, since there were some other things vying for our Rotary funds, but 83 Rotarians still haven’t sent their dues in. Come on, guys.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… The Scholarship Banquet last week was a wonderful event. I want to commend and thank Bobbie Campbell and Jennifer Hall and their committees for the outstanding job they did. Also, I would like to thank all Rotarians who attended and those who paid but could not attend. Because of you, the scholarships can be awarded to deserving students. If you missed the banquet, you missed a real treat with superb entertainment. It was a real thrill to see Ed Lydick and his wife there. Ed is one of our oldest and most dedicated members. –Howard
