NEXT MEETING, MAY 19Bill Hudson, CEO of Hudson Salvage, Inc. will be our speaker.

LAST MEETING, May 12… Our scheduled speaker, Jim Shamblin, Vice President of Rotary International, was not able to be with us because of illness in his family. Instead, we were treated to a talk on Investments by Clark Smith, who is the partner at UBS Paine Webber of our Program Chairman Danny Williams. Clark gave us a good bit of history of the way investments are - or should be - made, beginning with the various market analyses (either fundamental or technical) that indicate what we should buy and when we should buy it. He told us a good bit about the New York Stock Exchange Bullish Percentage, which was developed in 1955. That index is a good indicator of whether to be on the offense (wealth accumulation) or on defense (wealth preservation). It’s not like the good old days of the nineties, he said, when the only decision people made was how many dollars to put into the rising market. Now investors must be more sophisticated, and he helped us know how. Thanks to Danny for arranging and introducing this excellent speaker. Good Program Chairs are known for their ability to scramble at the last minute, and Danny gets good marks.

PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDAR NOW… to the effect that WE WILL NOT MEET on Monday, May 26. We’ll celebrate Memorial Day then.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… I am still trying for that 100% response to the vote regarding moving the location of our meeting place. As of today, we have heard from 308 of our members, which leaves 48 that we hope to hear from soon. This is the last time I will mention this, but if you know someone who has not responded, please encourage him/her to do ASAP. Contributions continue to come in for the PolioPlus Campaign. The response from our membership has been phenomenal, and we are greatly appreciative of your cooperation and support. Also, please be sure to recommend new members for our club. Membership applications are available if you need them. – Howard
