NEXT MEETING, JULY 28… our speaker will be Justice William Waller of the Mississippi Supreme Court.

LAST MEETING, JULY 21Dr. Bryant Boswell told us about the Re-enactment of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. From 1803 until 1806, the two explorers and a hardy group of assistants traveled from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania all the way to the Oregon coast - traveling upriver much of the way, and wintering in such cozy places as North Dakota. Dr. Boswell and another hardy group will re-enact the trek during its centennial anniversary. They’ll go all the way from Pittsburgh to Oregon, in a multi-year experience that will surely be a great adventure. Dr. Boswell gave us a host of details about the original expedition, which was one of the great feats in the early history of our country, in a most interesting manner. Thanks to Chief Jim Smith (who never looked so good!) for arranging and introducing this program.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… The first meeting in our new location at the Ag Museum was outstanding! All the comments I heard were good, about the food, about the meeting room, and about the location. We’re indebted to a bunch of people for hard work in making the transition go smoothly. First, we’re indebted to the River Hills people who put the whole deal together and catered the food. Barney Chadwick is the General Manager at River Hills, and Jim Burwell, who labored long and hard on every phase of the move, is their Food and Beverage Manager. From our club, Beau Whittington provided the backdrop and the room layout. And the Director of the Ag Museum, Charlie Dixon, could not have been more cooperative. I’m sure this will only get better through time. – Haden
