NEXT MEETING, AUGUST 18... Steve Hutton will tell us all about the Farm Bureau Golf Classic.

LAST MEETING, AUGUST 11Dr. Lou Campanosa, Assistant Dean of University College at Tulane University, told us about Tulane on the Coast. Tulane has been involved in adult education for more than 100 years, and has been granting degrees to non-traditional students since 1942. Tulane on the Coast expects to have about 400 adult students this fall in a number of studies. The one that has caught the attention of the public is a course in Casino Management, which our state schools are prohibited from teaching, but which, Lou says, is needed with the advent of casinos on the Coast. Lou points out that Tulane has been a good Coast citizen, that their adjunct professors are all local people, and that their credentials for adult education are impeccable. In a question-and-answer series, Lou, who is an acknowledged expert on the Viet Nam war and a Marine Corps veteran of the Gulf War, answered questions about the conduct of those wars as compared with the current situation in Iraq. Thanks to Program Chairman Bill Allison for arranging and introducing this program.

ATTENDANCE AT ROTARY… has always been a requirement for membership. It is no less now, even though it’s easier than ever to make up meetings. If you’re unavoidably prevented from attending one of our meetings, please note the makeup possibilities listed below. One of the local Rotary clubs will be happy to receive you, as will those out of town.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… Our Directors and Committee Chairmen had an informative meeting last week. We combined this with a meeting with our District Governor Kay Steed and ADG Mark Doiron. I am revitalized by the enthusiasm of many of these committees. I think we have a good year in store. The Cog Club will have its first meeting on August 21 at the University Club. All members who have joined since July 2002 are invited, and will be contacted. This is an excellent opportunity for our newer members to meet one another. I hope you will take advantage of it. – Haden
