NEXT MEETING, SEPTEMBER 15... Rotary District Governor Kay Steed will make the annual Governor’s visit to our club.

LAST MEETING, SEPTEMBER 8Rick Cleveland, Clarion-Ledger Sports Columnist, entertained us royally by talking about everybody’s favorite water-cooler topic: football. Rick covered the expectations, hopes and dreams of our state college teams, as well as the Saints. He also gave us an inside look at just how much fun it is to write a column on a game that’s not over until 10:45 pm when your deadline is 10:40. Rick, who literally grew up writing about sports (his dad was Mississippi Sports Hall-of-Fame sports writer Ace Cleveland), gave us a quote from the preface to his latest book, attributed to the late Red Smith, that sums up the way he feels about his profession: “It’s the people, not the games, that matter.” Thanks to Program Chairman Bill Allison for arranging and introducing this program.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS… number two and three of this Rotary year. Introduced to the club at the September 8 meeting were…
Jim Rosenblatt, Dean, Mississippi College School of Law. Jim was introduced by his proposer, Shelton Hand.
Karyn Thornhill, President, Inzinna Consulting. Karyn was introduced by her proposer, Ann Neal.

GOLF, ANYONE? Our annual golf tournament will be held on Tuesday, October 14, at the Country Club of Jackson. There’ll be a luncheon at 11:30, followed by a shotgun start at 1:00. Entry fee is only $50, which covers everything, including all the delicious eats and drinks, as well as generous door prizes. Call Chairman Joel Bobo at 948-0940, and get your name on the list.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… Welcome home to Colonel Kenny Windham, who has returned home after serving in Iraq. Also, congratulations to Vikki Taylor -- one of the Mississippi Business Journal's 50 Leading Business Women. And, in case you’ve wondered, for the record, our average attendance since our move to the Ag Museum is up 16 percent over the same period last year - Haden
