NEXT MEETING, SEPTEMBER 22... Lee Paris will tell us about his recent visit to a different part of the world.

LAST MEETING, SEPTEMBER 15… Rotary District Governor Kay Steed gave the annual Governor’s address to our club. Kay, who hails from our neighboring Madison-Ridgeland club, told us about the requirements established this year for earning a Presidential Citation (as we did last year). It’s based on the four Avenues of Service – Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, and International Service, plus emphasis on the Family of Rotary. Kay presented some examples of what other clubs are doing in those areas. She also commented favorably on Rotary International’s PolioPlus campaign, which is designed to rid the world of Polio by our centennial year of 2005. Thanks to Governor Kay for visiting with us.

SPEAKERS, HERE’S YOUR CHANCE… There are several Rotary clubs in our immediate area who have a need for good quality speakers at their club meetings. Governor Kay Steed has asked us, as the largest club in the area, to see if there aren’t members of our club who would be willing to speak to one of these Rotary clubs about their work, their interests, some special emphasis, or other subjects that are appropriate for Rotary audiences. If you fit that category – and we know that a lot of you do - please give a call to Shelton Hand, Chairman of the Rotary Information Committee, who’s heading up our efforts on this front. You can reach Shelton at 925-7145.

GOLF TOURNAMENT – TIME’S GETTING SHORT… Don’t forget our annual golf tournament. It’s set for Tuesday, October 14, at the Country Club of Jackson, with a luncheon at 11:30, followed by a shotgun start at 1:00. For your $50 entry fee, you’ll get a bunch of fun stuff in addition to the golf. Call Chairman Joel Bobo at 948-0940, and get your name on the list.

YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS… has approved the following new member proposals. If no objections are received within seven days, they will be introduced to the club as new members:
Kenny Griffis, Attorney. Kenny was proposed by Heber Simmons, III
Brian Bishop, Owner, Document Solutions. Brian was proposed by Mary Fuller

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… For those members seeking a "hands on" - not fundraising – project, please contact Barbara Dorr, who chairs our Community Service Committee, and is open for suggestions. Also, if you have news about fellow Rotarians - good or bad - please contact Fred Neil with the Care/Concerns/News Committee or Bill Dawson. – Haden
