October 23, 2001
NEXT MONDAY, OCTOBER
29, 2001... Charles Barbour will be our guest speaker. He'll
talk to us about the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.
LAST MONDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2001... Dr. Colin Harbinson, Dean
of Fine Arts at Belhaven College, gave us a look at the Arts from a Christian
perspective, and documented ways the Arts are being used to bring about
understanding between nations. Dr. Harbinson, a native of England, has
led major Arts Festivals in the former Soviet Union, in Bulgaria, and
in China, and told us about ways artists from different cultures and different
nationalities have been able to bond through their association in the
Arts. Next January, China is sending 45 students to Belhaven for three
weeks to absorb our culture as a result of his recent Festival there.
Thanks to Roger Parrott for scheduling and introducing this outstanding
program.
JUST TWO WEEKS NOW... Our next Rotofest will be held on
the evening of November 5 at the Costas Lodge. A sheet will be
avilable again at next week's meeting showing how to get there.
WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS... number 15 and 16 of the new Rotary year.
The following were introduced at our October 22 meeting:
Lee Seago, Madison County President of State Bank & Trust Company.
Lee was introduced by his proposer Lewis Lipscomb.
Jeff Lundy, Investment Representative for Edward Jones Investments.
Jeff was introduced by his proposer Billy Carter.
OUR NEW PICTURE ROSTER BOOKS ARE HERE... and were distributed at
the October 22 meeting. (If you weren't there, you can get yours at a
future meeting.) Remember, please, to get ONLY one book per member. They're
expensive, and we didn't order enough for multiple copies. If you find
a mistake in the book (and there may be one or two; nobody's perfect),
please either phone it in to the Rotary office at 352-8500 and leave in
on the answering machine, fax it to us at 352-8586, or e-mail it to us
at jrotary@bellsouth.net.
WANT TO RECOMMEND A NEW MEMBER? It's relatively simple. If you
know of a good prospective member for our club, just get an application
from our Secretary-Treasurer at any meeting, or call and ask him to send
you one.
