NEXT MEETING, NOVEMBER 3… our speaker will be Dr. Pat Jordan, Southern Regional Research Center.

LAST MEETING, OCTOBER 27… fellow Rotarian Dr. Dan Jones, Vice Chancellor of the University of Mississippi and Dean of the Medical School, gave us an update on the Medical College. Dan is only the third head of UMC, following Dr. Norman Nelson and our own Dr. Wally Conerly. He mentioned two pioneers – Dr. Arthur Guyton, world famous for hypertension research, and Dr. Jim Hardy, who did the world’s first lung transplant. Then he told us of some young faculty members who are continuing the school’s excellent teaching tradition. Thanks to Danny Williams for introducing this program.

REMINDER TO COG CLUB MEMBERS… don’t forget the reception on Thursday night, October 30 - 5:30 at the Country Club.

AND OUR FALL ROTARFEST… will be on Monday evening, November 10, at the Ag Museum. But not where we normally meet – this will be at the Ethnic Heritage Center across the way. You should park at Smith-Wills and walk across the footbridge. (Because that day they will be PAVING the parking lot in front of the building where we meet. Hooray!)

THE ROTARY SPOTLIGHT…swung around on October 27 to shine on Haley Fisackerly, Vice President, Entergy-Mississippi. Congrats, Haley.

YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS… has approved the following new member proposal. If no objections are received within seven days, he will be introduced to the club as a new member:
Wilson Carroll, Counsel, Phelps Dunbar. Wilson was proposed by Susan Lunardini.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBER… number nine of this Rotary year. Introduced to the club at the October 27 meeting was…
Buddy Parham, President, Parham Group (consulting). Buddy was introduced by his proposer, Jack Spradling.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… With October gone, there are two dates that are fast approaching. One is December 16, which is a unique opportunity to have lunch with Rotary International President-Elect Glenn Estess. This will be at 11:45 a.m. at the Hunter Henry Center at Miss. State. See me or Bill Dawson for details. December 22 is the other date. This is our Children's Christmas Party. Make plans now to invite your children of all ages to attend. This will be the first time in several years that the children will be out of school when we have the party. Let them see where you have been going to lunch every Monday! Karen Crews has her committee working on this event now to make it the best ever. - Haden.
