NEXT MEETING, NOVEMBER 24Congressman Chip Pickering will be our speaker.

LAST MEETING, NOVEMBER 17Rod Barnes, basketball coach at Ole Miss, gave us an inspirational message, as well as some scoop on his team that opens the season later this week (“exciting prospects – good leadership”). Coach Barnes emphasized that his job is teaching young people life skills; he simply uses basketball to do it. He’s pretty good at it, too -- he has averaged 20 wins a season, was Naismith Coach of the Year in 1998, and is the only person to be both All-SEC as a player and SEC Coach of the Year. He pointed out that the vast majority of his players will never make the pros, but his goal is to return them to their communities not as boys, but as men. Thanks to Rodney Chamblee for introducing this fine program.

THE ROTARY SPOTLIGHT…swung around on November 3 to shine on Sherry Murphy, Executive Director of the Kindness Foundation.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBERS… number ten, eleven, and twelve of this Rotary year. Introduced to the club at the November 17 meeting were…

  • Ted Lloyd, Vice President & Co-Owner, RecordMax, Inc. Ted was proposed by Mark Terpstra.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… For those who missed last week's Rotarfest, you missed a good one. Over 100 members attended for great food and fellowship. Several other committees are getting into gear -- watch for their announcements: 1. The Children's Christmas Party Committee will meet next week. 2. The Christmas Charities Committee will begin collecting for the nursing homes gifts. 3. The Community Service Committee is developing ideas for a work project -- see Barbara Dorr if you have any suggestions. Also, hats off to Bill Allison and the Program Committee for their great work this year. – Haden
