NEXT MEETING, DECEMBER 1… Our speaker will be Linda Berry, with LBA International.

LAST MEETING, NOVEMBER 24Congressman Chip Pickering brought us up to date on happenings in Washington. He spoke about health care, economic recovery, and national security, and also reminded us in our Thanksgiving observances to remember the families of servicemen who have died defending our freedom. Thanks to Bill Allison for introducing this program.

THE ROTARY SPOTLIGHT…swung around on November 24 to shine on Robby Toombs, with UAP Timberland. Congrats, Robby.

HERE ARE SOME THINGS COMING UP

  • The President-Elect of Rotary International will be in Starkville on December 16, and several carloads of our members will be traveling there to meet him. We don’t often get such an opportunity. If you would like to go, either call President Haden or phone the Rotary office (352-8500) and leave word on the answering machine.
  • Our Children’s Christmas Party is set for Monday, December 22. Your Board of Directors selected this slightly later date so that we can invite our school-age children (they’ll all be out for the holidays by then). We’ll have hot dogs and hamburgers for them, Santa will be in attendance, and lots of other things are planned by Karen Crews and her committee. Put it on your calendar now.
  • And while you’re marking your calendar, go ahead and put down Tuesday, December 23. That’s when Lee Paris and the Christmas Charities committee hope you’ll join them to take gifts to two nursing homes in the community. If you’ve never done this, you should. We’ll meet at the Ag Museum parking lot at 9:30 on that date.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving Day. This is the first year one of my children will not be with us. I am thankful that she is well and happy and am comforted to know she would be with us if she could. As Rotarians, we are all blessed. Let us be thankful for this and keep it in our hearts as we strive to live “service above self.” Happy Thanksgiving. – Haden

FUTURE PROGRAMS… just so you can get your calendar marked, here’s what Bill Allison and the Program Committee have in store for the rest of the year…

  • December 8: To Be Announced
  • December 15: Jack Gordon, Mississippi Legislature
  • December 22: Children’s Christmas Party
