NEXT MEETING, DECEMBER 15… our speaker will be Jack Gordon, of the Mississippi Legislature.

LAST MEETING, DECEMBER 8Blake Wilson, President and CEO of the Mississippi Economic Council, saved Bill Allison’s life by stepping in for a cancelled program, and did so admirably. Blake shared with us the “secret weapon” that’s helping us move forward – the business inter-connections we have within the state. Blake reminded us that the keys to making progress are communication, cooperation, and collaboration, and developing programs that are workable, measurable, and trackable. Thanks to Bill Allison for arranging and introducing this program.

THE ROTARY SPOTLIGHT…swung around on December 1 to shine on Greg Broadbridge, with AmSouth Bank. Congrats, Greg.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBER… number 14 of this Rotary year. Introduced to the club on December 1 was…

  • Brad Prewitt, Attorney with the Prewitt Group. Brad was introduced by his proposer, Heber Simmons, Jr.

ROTARY ELECTIONS… were held on December 8. Congratulations to the winners, who will take office next July 1…
President: Danny Williams; Vice President: Ron Applewhite.
Directors: Ben Allen, Joel Bobo, Rodney Chamblee, Mary Fortune, Mark Saxon, and Janet Scott.

CHRISTMAS CHARITIES… gifts are coming in strong, and there will still be an opportunity to contribute at next week’s meeting. Chairman Lee Paris reminds you to mark your calendar for December 23, 9:30 to 11:30, to take gifts and Christmas cheer to two nursing homes – The Bond Home in Madison and the Community Nursing Home in Jackson.

CHILDREN’S CHRISTMAS PARTY… is set for December 22, in just two weeks. A reminder: our River Hills caterers will provide a hamburger plate for the kids for just $4, and we’ll also have our regular buffet. Karen Crews and her committee have a lot of activities planned, including Santa and the Mississippi Girls Choir. Make your plans now.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… Our club's biggest shortcoming is in our annual giving to the Rotary Foundation. We have a wonderful record of achieving Paul Harris Fellow status, but stopping there. I was guilty of this until just a few years ago myself. These contributions fund the Ambassadorial Scholarships and Rotary International projects and exchange teams. We can overcome this problem by becoming Paul Harris Sustaining Members--$50 each 6 months. Please consider this when you receive your dues statement. – Haden
