January 11, 2005

We will NOT meet next Monday, January 17, as we observe
the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday.

NEXT MEETING, JANUARY 24…our speaker will be Charlie Williams, the Governor’s Chief of Staff.

LAST MEETING, JANUARY 11Steve DeSalvo, General Manager of the Mississippi Braves, brought us up to date on the activities of our brand-new Double-A baseball team. Steve, who is in his 19th year with the Braves organization, donned his “M” hat and shared some of his enthusiasm for the upcoming season. The club, which is moving here from Greenville, S.C., has long been one of the primary stops along the way for future major leaguers. Steve shared some stories about others who have come his way during his years with the club – people like Dale Murphy and John Smolz. The Braves kick off their season on April 7, and will be at home in their brand-new Pearl ballpark on April 18. Thanks to Mary Fortune for introducing this program.

YOUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS…has approved the following membership proposal. If no objections are received within seven days, she will be introduced as a new member:
Susan Lindsay, Headmaster, Jackson Preparatory School. Susan was proposed by Mark Saxon.

WELCOME TO NEW MEMBER… number eighteen of this Rotary year. Introduced to the club on January 10 was…
Don Janous, Principal – Smith, Shellnut, Wilson LLC (Investment Banking). Don was introduced by his proposer, Ben Allen.

PRESIDENT’S CORNER… Big “red hearts” are beginning to appear everywhere! Raffle ticket sales are in full swing and everyone that purchases their two tickets gets a “red heart” sticker on their name badge. Don’t be the only one at your table without one. Thanks to all of you that have already contributed to our only official fundraising project, Mentor Scholarships. Contact Jennifer Hall or Bill Dawson for contribution instructions. The Family of Rotary committee met today and they need your assistance. If you know of someone in our club that needs to be contacted due to difficult circumstances or deserves to be recognized for recent achievement, please notify one of their committee members, which will be set up at one of the back tables each week. They really need your help! Finally, welcome to our newest member, Don Janous. We are glad to have you. Yours In Rotary, Danny
